I'm Soooo Tired, My Mind Is On the Blink
12:32 PM Edit This 8 Comments »Yesterday was a little rough for us. We woke up with that heavy, throbbing fatigue that comes with exhaustion wrought of long stressful days and short sleepless nights.
We moved our RV to the new park, which turned out to be more of a small, unshaded plot near the freeway. ;-p Can't say Austin RV Park-North lives up to is claim of seclusion, shade and quiet. But, it is a place to park, and it hasn't much mattered because we have not been able to be at the RV these past days because of all of the errands we have been running to get things in order.
Following the RV (in our van with the kids) I began to realize just how tired I was when I had to question whether I was able to stay focused enough to continue the few miles to the park. Thankfully, we arrived moments later and I teetered off to the bedroom to lie down for "a few minutes."
I woke up about an hour and a half later with a splitting headache that clung on for the rest of the day and that same heavy fatigue. Bleh.
Luckily Ben Sklar came by and infused us with some fun energy and fresh perspective and we got to planning our route. Yay!!
We're planning to hit the road on Sunday, headed West, out of Texas and into Hobbs, New Mexico. From there, we're planning to head North through Roswell (how could we not?) and out through Taos, into Colorado.
So. Excited.
Feeling a little more energized, we ran a few more errands and planned to go to my father's place to sort through the boxes of sentimental items and precious books he was hanging onto for us. We had hoped to downsize the stack, but had to admit defeat as I lay face-down on the floor begging for mercy! We were so used up from
Today, Jeff is in the office to get things in order for his absence. The kids and I are presently parked outside the Tax Office; Neeka napping, me Blogging and Quinn Lego-ing. When Neeka wakes up we'll head inside and wait 4 hours ;-) so we can transfer the title and register the RV.
Then we've got to head over to our local food co-op to pick up a national co-op directory so that we can plan our route to get us as close to the organic food places as we can.
If anyone has anything to recommend along our route through West Texas and New Mexico, we'd love to hear it!

If you haven't planned to already, you might try Balmorhea State Park in far West Texas. Don't know if they have RV slots but here's a link.

Think of it as a Barton Springs in the desert!
If you can get by without electricity and hookups, find out where the Corp of Engineer camps are. You can stay free for up to two weeks. You'll find lots of them on the West Coast.
Do you know about the Solar Music Fest? Can you time yourselves to be there? It's awesome.

We've run that trip a couple times. So you'll be at Carlsbad, the cavern tour is a good thing to hit up.
Sante Fe is just great, make sure you spend some time down town scoping out the native american goods, very colorful, and the sculptures. As well as all the great little restuarants there and the awesome green chili the state prides itself on.
Depending on your route and how much out of the way you want to go. White sands is nifty, but also nifty is the rocket museum that is there. It's interesting atleast.
Outside Sante Fe, you go up in the mountains, Los Alamos is very very nice little town in the mountains.
A totally spectacular place to go, and stay is Chaco National Historic Park. It's awe inspiring, both the park you can camp at, and the ruins.

That is pictures from the New Mexico leg of our trip and all the exploration above.
Hope that helps!
First of all, hang in there. The headache and tired thing has got to be blowback from the stuff that you've let go and the changes you've been making. Physically, you've released it -- emotionally there's still a process to move through. Rest, drink water, laugh, dream.
Second, my husband and I are camp hosts at Leasburg Dam just outside Las Cruces, NM. It's not quite on your route but if you should decide to take Atex's advice and go to Balmorhea (fun place, good swimming - there are sites there and at Ft. Davis), you can follow I-10 to El Paso then catch I-25 at Las Cruces and we're 15 miles north. Great park, pretty desert scenery and a straight shot north to Taos.
We're long-term RV'ers and would be glad to coach you on the artform...our idea of "bread for the journey."
Carlsbad, Marfa, Big Bend is beautiful too. I absolutely love that area of Texas and New Mexico.
if you do white sands, take something for your oldest little one to "sled" down the dunes. my kids live for driving through white sands to do a little "sand surfing".
best wishes still traveling with you...
I don't know what your timetable is, but Cheyenne WY has their big rodeo-Frontier Days every year. This year it's July 18-27. There is usually difficulty finding lodging of any kind including RV parks within a 50 mile radius. Just wanted to give you a heads up so you can plan your travels accordingly! Best of luck to you and your family!
