The Road Less Traveled

3:55 PM Edit This 11 Comments »
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

I have been reading your blog for one month now and I felt the need to come out of lurkdom and say how much I enjoy following you on this road less traveled. Someone posted a link on my mommy board and I followed it to read your letter to your children on the reasons for this journey, from that moment I was hooked. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, I will continue to read if only to share in a glimpse of your amazing family.
Take care,

That's my favorite poem, with Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening a close second.

Love love love the stories. Keep 'em coming and holding you guys in golden light in my thoughts.

One should always do a tick check after hiking those kind of trails.

Sorry. Its the first thing that came to mind after reading it. I guess its because there isn't much romance in the poem anymore as we are actually out there, not conforming to what society told us was the correct way. And well, probably because I am not a dreamer but mechanically logical.

Best of luck on your path! To each our own...

Always the best poem to read before a journey, physical or otherwise.

Good luck and let us know how the Gathering is going!

Aimee and Jeff,
I am so inspired by your wanderings. I only wish our kiddos had brought us to chatting sooner (think Raj and Drama).

When I was in my 20's I planned a cross country trip in my van. The plan was to only drive local roads and no highways. It took us twice as long and we met some awesome people and saw so many beautiful things. We never made it all the way across the country we ended up getting side tracked by Hurricane Andrew and starting a soup kitchen and spending 18 months in a van feeding people. WOW! How those experiences shaped me....
Your sweet kiddos are so lucky that you are sharing this with them!

What your blog does for me...it makes me pine for those days when giving and sharing and adventure was my main focus.

I wish you guys joy and safety on your adventures!

I normally hate that poem b/c every single graduation ceremony, someone reads it. For many years, it was such a cliché to me.

I reread it today, with new eyes and thought about some choices I have made lately, and choices I will be making soon.

Thank you for reintroducing this poem to me, and for sharing your journey with us. Good luck in all your travels.

Hi - I've found your blog fascinating and a bit inspiring both for the writing itself and the concept behind the journey, both laudable. And, I was reminded of my own “Road Less Travelled” musings, from another part of the world but ideas don't have borders...

Amiee & Jeff,

Glad to hear you made it over the pass. That's higher than we ever had the RV. We have shared your story with all our friends and told them to check out your blog. Good luck on the rest of the trip.
