I just wanted to say Hello to everyone who's coming by or clicking over from the Times Union today, and to everyone who's been here with me, or is just here now.
This is the second time I've done an interview for a newspaper. It's a bit surreal.
Like most of life's moments, this was an unplanned aspect of my plans ;-) , and being unexpected, I'm still working to understand it's place in the big scheme of things... what is it that I have to say?
What is it that I'm doing and why... while also trying to understand that everything just is and is perfect as such.
Getting to where we are... spiritually, physically... started out simply enough. One could say that all of life leads up to each moment, but at some point I noticed life really starting to slip and slide along.
I think it's about higher consciousness... of everything.
Everything that we think and feel, do and say, believe and eat. It's about totally opening up and letting every moment of life be our teacher. It's about changing. It's about totally accepting and embracing Change in it's integral, unavoidable, purposeful, point of life.
It's about spiritual growth - brought about by a constant growth in perspective, and an openness to understanding and embracing the beautiful purpose of of even the most judge-able moments in life.
It's about finding the lesson... the value of everything... of seeing the poetic realness of everything, and never losing value for your core being: your body, your mind, your self, your family and on up from there.
It's about setting daily examples for our children about Love, and Strength, and Perseverance.
It's about never believing in the lie of Do as I say.
Do as I Do. Watch and learn; these are the lessons I have to teach you, the wisdom I have to give. Kids, these are the tricks of the trade of living.
I think it's a little bit about truly understanding your priorities, and then making sure that your actions and thoughts are not in conflict with those ascribed values.
We've had a lot of bumps, and stumbles, and face-planting while trying to figure out this thing called life, but like a toddler never afraid to trip, for the love and excitement of learning to run, we're learning to do it wholeheartedly.
I think I can say with honesty that being able to live the life that we live is a direct result of going waaaay back to the basics of life... treating them like the were in the jeopardy that they were... and making them the priority. It hasn't been a year and a half since my perspective on life was largely from a place of pain, illness and an intense feeling of helplessness... Things look a bit different these days.
I think what it all comes down to is a search for Life - in all of it's forms... it's about the freedom to make that my focus, and if that focus looks like the pursuit of happiness, then I think something must be right.
I'm only coming up on my 30th birthday, and I think embracing my naivete about how to truly live has made a world of difference. It's a natural and an artful simplicity of being.
This is us throwing out all of our preconceived ideas, finding our true values and applying them to our lives.
I invite you to join me. Ask, tell, share, watch... Sometimes I don't know what it is that I have to offer you, but I'm going to offer what I have anyway.
This blog is for me and it's for you... no friendship... no interaction ever goes only one way.
Come out and play with me!
xoxo
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying the stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
It makes me wonder,
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
It really makes me wonder.
And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.
Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
And she's buying the stairway to heaven.

is there a link to the new article? i tried looking for it, but couldnt find it... i would love to read it!
I read you because I love what you have to say. We hope to be free from our "stuff" someday. It's a slow process. But a goal worth achieving.
Ella, the article is linked to from here:

I'm in the process of letting go of everything I don't use or truly value, and what Aimee had to say resonated with me. I like this from today:
"I think it's a little bit about truly understanding your priorities, and then making sure that your actions and thoughts are not in conflict with those ascribed values."
Aimee, thank you for taking the time to speak with me and share your experience.
I am amazed at what you are doing with your life and your family.. I have only one question, how are paying for your life on the road ?
Hi Anonymous,
Nomadic families have an infinite range of income sources, but ours comes primarily from Jeff's contract work as a System and Network Engineer and our bartering efforts.
We are learning the fine art of bartering services and goods to support our lives and it is incredibly satisfying and eye-opening.
I'm working on a post to tell you about an internship/barter that led to the completion of our sofa project, as well as one that discusses our finances, plans and methods in more detail.
In truth, I'm working on a lot of posts, but with only an hour or two on the computer a day, everything is slow going :-)
Bill, your How-To post is coming too!
I'm following your posts and love your whole approach and sense of style and fun in doing it.
I'm going to be getting a mobile home-on-wheels sometime in the next year. I really, really would love to see the pics of how you reno'ed the RV and also would be very interested to know more about how you budgetted for it.
I love how you say that nomadic families have an infinite range of income sources....I haven't been able to find them yet, so I am planting roots for a while...hopefully setting sail again in the spring. It will be best to hunker down for the winter anyway. I hope you and your family are doing well. The pics are beautiful.

I'm sorry to hear that Teresa! We have been inspired by some of our friends who have moved into being mobile mechanics, slinging paninis and espresso at festivals, selling at craft fairs, painting houses, mobile handyman.... We know a few people who have regular income and homes and augment their income by picking up odd jobs on Craigslist.
The opportunities are out there, but like a smart friend just told me, "It has to be one of your top priorities or you won't be able to make it work... it'll look like sacrifice instead."
