Living in the RV was the most structured time in our lives. Everyday had a flow and was steeped in ritual. We woke with the sun and snuggled together on our little sofa, still covered in blankets from the night before, while Jeff made tea a couple of feet away in the kitchenette. The sun would stream through the cracks in the still closed curtains and our breath hung in the chilly morning air. The sound of the water boiling on the stove and the clink of the mugs is burned into my memory along with these visuals. The steamy hot, honey sweetened tea was such a treat as we allowed ourselves to wake up slowly and quietly. Though they were just 5 and 1 years old Quinn and Nichola seemed to savor this ritual in the same quiet way that we did. Something so sweet about the energy of ritual in close quarters... Something priceless about living our lives as one, rather than a series of schedule overlaps...
Lately our days have been getting farther and farther from these shared moments. It's as if the mere existence of more space kills the sweet vibe and the synchronicity of a family.
Quinn is up first, Nichola about an hour later, Jeff with Nichola and shortly there after Simone joins them. With Simone in the sling Jeff prepares breakfast for the kids; usually Irish oats and eggs, while I try to catch some of the deep sleep that eludes a mother of an infant, but is utterly necessary to a person susceptible to Fibromyalgia.
Though I am trying to take measures to protect my health, I feel like I'm completely out of sync. I am simply a much happier, more productive person when I wake up with the sun... or more truly, just before it.
Reading Boho Girls post about her morning yerba mate ritual reminded me of all of these things and how I miss them. Beginning tomorrow I am on a mission to return structure and ritual to our lives... starting with our morning mugs of sweet steamy tea.
One of my favorites is rooibos with a bit of vanilla and cinnamon. What's yours?

I loved living in our 1 bedroom house with all 7 of us. I'm not kidding...exactly for the same reason you loved the closeness of the RV. Fond memories. Now we're in a space that makes us move in much wider circles and communication just isn't the same.
mmmmm....Louis and I have passed on the coffee as of late and started each morning with tea too. My current fave is Yogi's moon cycle tea. I love the bite of the fennel and ginger laced with some local honey from a farm around the corner it's a magnificient treat.
It really is taking care of the 'Babs' in me, which I had lost some time ago while I wasn't looking...it's nice to find her :)
Enjoy your tea and baby beams of sunlight, love!

Roiboos with vanilla and cinnamon? Mmm! Great choice. That's almost like dessert.
Beautiful pics. Thank you.
Oolong tea is fine. I'm easy to please if it's steamy and offered in kindness.
Rituals are the stuff of life. Whether in worship or daily mundane. Enjoy! You have something which 'working' mothers cannot begin to appreciate.
The only downside to what ya'll have and are experiencing is that the future spouses of your children have greater standards to match! lol But that's what you're there for later, to ensure they're matched well.
Amicalement!
My husband gets up first and brings me and Bub (aged 2 and a bit now) tea in bed. I get my cup and he gets a warm milky version (a memory of being brought in for his first breast feed of the morning?. I LOVE being brought tea in bed. Its such an amazing thing and something you JUST CAN'T DO ON YOUR OWN. for me it is symbolic of our whole relationship.
I love PG tips in the morning (the brits will know what that is - strong black tea with milk.)
But I can highly recommend Earl Grey Rooibosh by Dragonfly teas
Hands down it's Twinings of London's Black Currant... or really any black currant is amazing. With a touch of honey. Yum yum, wish there was some in my cabinets right now :(
My tea ritual is actually at night, before I go to sleep. This year for Christmas my best friend got me an overly generous gift and, honestly, one of the best gifts EVER - a 'subscription' to Wellness Teas from the Republic of Teas for one year. Not only do I look forward to the packages of tea every month, but I also have a great collection to choose from. Tonight, I had a little "get relief" tea - soothing and calming.
I'm going to have to try your suggestion of roobios with vanilla and cinnamon for the morning - sounds great.
Hmmm... tea. All kinds! However, my old faithful is always earl grey with honey or agave and a splash of milk.
I also want to tell you that I followed you here from MDC while looking for support on fulltiming. I'm inspired and encouraged by your story which just so happens to be similar to ours but we're just starting out. I recently started a blog here myself. I might come around to pick your brain if you don't mind! Hugs and thank you for being so fantastic :-)
I would love to start a morning tea ritual...right now ours is in the evenings. It seems like such a lovely way to start the day.
My absolute favorite is a green tea called bi luo chun. A friend brought it back for us as a gift from China. I must find a place to get some more, but so far I've been unsuccessful in my quest!
