I know it is so hard to believe in ourselves, but we miss out and so do others when we don't. our work, be it art or writing or whathaveyou, can bring healing to us and others if we can find the courage to persevere. I just self-published my first novel. It may never have seen the light of day without the encouragement of others. So others can show you how to give yourself permission to keep creating. and i've been getting wonderful feedback, but it would have been worth it to me for my own healing even if no one liked it.

BTW, i've been reading you for years and have never commented.

I bought from this fiber artist on etsy recently and read her story about how she learned to spin yarn one month and started her business the next month. I'm like HOW did she do that?? It's hard to stop beating ourselves with self doubt.

There should be goats that deal very well with your weather there, and that should be happy enough eating the grasses and grains that grow naturally. You might need to supplement a *little* with some corn or kitchen scraps, but really, they're hardy wee animals, and have many uses. They can be loved as pets, worked similarly to mules or oxen (though smaller), their hair can be used for wool, they create incredible fertilizer, they give lovely milk which makes delicious cheese, they're great lawn mowers, AND you can eat them.

After having traveled all of the "lower 48" over the past few years I have to say New Mexico is one of my favorites, particularly TAOS! I connect deeply with the energy of the land in any given place. Many places have a really high magnification of whatever energy you are experiencing(Sedona AZ and San Juan Island WA come to mind), some have a really low vibrational frequency(Gillette WY, Joliet IL and Mt Shasta, CA come to mind)and then there are places that seem to have a consistent positive energetic flow, I'm not sure what happens in the Earth's crust or the dimensional energetic/magnetic fields but Taos, Cimmarron Canyon NM and Monument Valley UT/AZ are places that come to mind with consistent wonderful energy.

Can't wait to see the movie!

Thanks for posting this recommendation.
Saw it last night with my wife and we loved it. We have been talking about it on and off all day today which is the sign of a movie that has gotten under our skin. Already thinking about watching it again. I particularly liked the understated direction that let the landscape and the story speak for itself without joining all the dots for the viewer. Fascinating also to see the homesteading life depicted. I was scanning each frame for those small details that give authenticity and was not dissapointed.
We already had this region on our destination list as we love native american jewellery, so we have another motive.
Can anyone recommend other movies that depict a contemporary homesteading life ?

Just put it in the Netflix queue. We just signed up for Netflix a month ago, I wanted to downsize on DVDs and I found their collection of History movies to be amazing!

I've only been through NM en route to California, but Taos sounds amazing from everything I've seen and read online!

I just got a 99 Subaru. They seem to be the most sought after car here in Taos but it wasn't cheap, that's for sure...around 4K for one in good shape anyway.

Hi! I have been reading your blog forever, but I thought I'd comment to tell you good luck!! I am also a student at UNM, at the main campus in Albuquerque. I am a returning student, after being a stay at home mom for almost 10 years to our five kids. I'm so happy to read these most recent posts of yours! I've been loosely following you and your adventures since your RV trek and have admired you from afar. There is a comfort I get when I see that you've posted and almost a concern when I see that you haven't posted for awhile!! Funny how these internet connections feel so real!

The most beautiful revelation of my college education aside from the tantalizing topics and indepth conversations...was the night I realized I COULD CHOOSE between turning in a paper, and spending time with my family. Sure, my choice may mean I get a "B" in the class, but CHOOSING to be well rounded includes CHOOSING My family (or any other number of obligations) and that priority isn't static. That was a big step for this perfectionist...and it has proven to be my proverbial fork in the road...and I am INDEED all the better for it.
